Ontario Supporting 2025 Ice Storm Recovery in Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound
March 10, 2026
Funding will help cover emergency response and clean up costs stemming from the March 2025 ice storm and significant winter weather event.
BRUCE—GREY—OWEN SOUND — To protect Ontario and keep communities safe, the provincial government is providing up to $111,000 for ice storm assistance in Grey Highlands and Northern Bruce Peninsula. The funding is part of Ontario’s $90 million Municipal Ice Storm Assistance program, and will help cover clean-up and emergency response costs due to a severe winter weather event on March 28, 2025.
“The March 2025 ice storm caused significant damage in many communities in Bruce—Grey—Owen Sound, in particular on the Bruce Peninsula and in Grey Highlands,” said Paul Vickers, MPP for Bruce—Grey—Owen Sound. “Today’s announcement demonstrates that we know this significant event came with added costs for our local municipalities, and we are here to support them.”
The following municipalities are receiving funding, after cost-sharing:
| Municipality | Maximum Provincial Assistance (rounded) |
| Grey Highlands | $36,000 |
| Northern Bruce Peninsula | $75,000 |
The March 28, 2025 storm resulted in widespread damage, leaving nearly 400,000 homes and businesses without power across central and eastern Ontario. In Grey Highlands, the storm damaged trees and caused widespread – and in some cases prolonged – power outages. The storm also caused 6,000 customers on the Bruce Peninsula to lose power, in addition to road damage that required the Municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula to regrade some of its roads.
“As someone who lives in the eastern portion of Grey Highlands, I experienced the 2025 ice storm firsthand — the power outages, the uncertainty, and the strain it placed on families, farms, and businesses across Grey Highlands,” said Paul McQueen, Mayor of Grey Highlands. “This provincial funding will help our community recover from the impacts of that storm and strengthen our infrastructure as extreme weather becomes more frequent. I am grateful for this support and proud of the resilience our residents showed during an incredibly difficult time.”
“Our government will always protect Ontario, especially in times of need,” said Rob Flack, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing. “The relief being announced today will safeguard local jobs and help the municipalities of Grey Highlands and Northern Bruce Peninsula rebuild – stronger than ever.”
In June 2025, the Ontario government launched the Municipal Ice Storm Assistance program and Business Ice Storm Assistance program to help communities impacted by the storm.
