Ontario Reducing Healthcare Wait Times in Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound with Over $2.2 Million Investment

Local hospital organizations will be receiving a total of $2,227,500 to perform additional Computed Tomography (CT) services and to help clear surgical backlogs through the Incremental Surgical Recovery Fund.

OWEN SOUND – The Government of Ontario is supporting three healthcare services in Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound with over $2.2 million in new funding to reduce waiting times for diagnostic and surgical services. Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Paul Vickers made the announcement Monday morning.

Through this provincial investment, Brightshores Health System and South Bruce Grey Health Centre (SBGHC) will receive support to provide additional CT services, while Brightshores, SBGHC, and the Hanover District Hospital (HDH) will be receiving Incremental Surgical Recovery funding to help clear surgical backlogs.

“This is an important announcement for Bruce and Grey counties,” said Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Paul Vickers. “This investment will help clear backlogs, right here in our own backyard. I am grateful to Minister Jones and the Ministry of Health for providing this additional support here in our community.”

“CT imaging is essential to delivering high‑quality patient care, and our Owen Sound and Southampton hospitals are equipped with state‑of‑the‑art scanners to meet that need,” said Ann Ford, President and CEO of Brightshores Health System. “Today’s funding announcement from the provincial government is welcome news for Grey and Bruce counties.”

“This investment from the Government of Ontario will support timely access to CT services for our patients and meet the needs of our growing communities,” said Nancy Shaw, President and CEO of SBGHC. “As the first rural CT scanner in Ontario, the CT program has been operational since 1999 and continues with strong community support.”
