The following projects will be receiving funding from the Ministry of Seniors and Accessibility, through the Seniors Community Grant Program (SCGP):

Town of Hanover | Active Aging Expo | $9,241 | This project will connect seniors with resources, services, and volunteer opportunities, promoting healthy living and active aging in the Town of Hanover. It will feature a tradeshow with booths from local organizations, keynote speakers, entertainment, and food, highlighting ways for older adults to engage in their community through volunteerism and social interaction. |
Chippewas of Nawash First Nation Housing Department | Enhancing Senior Living Spaces and Artistic Engagement | $25,000 | This project will aim to improve and enhance physical environment of the Seniors’ Apartment Complex at Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation. This Community-Driven Art Project will engage the seniors in the community by aiding them in participating in a mural project at the Seniors’ Apartment Complex which will be lead and over-seen by local artists. |
YMCA of Owen Sound Grey-Bruce | Thrive Together Social & Fitness Workshops for Older Adults | $25,000 | This project will encourage older adults to get active by expanding accessible social and fitness programs that promote connection, healthy aging, and physical wellness. Special outreach will focus on rural communities, newcomers, and removing barriers for those with low incomes or varying abilities, while in-person workshops will improve mobility, strength, and injury prevention, fostering meaningful relationships and peer support. |
“Active seniors are healthy seniors,” said Vickers. “I am pleased to see these organizations receive this funding, so they can continue to serve local seniors with a variety of activities and service. Of course, i am grateful to Minister Raymond Cho for seeing the potential of these programs in our community.”
“Amid economic uncertainty and rising costs, Premier Ford and our government are proud to protect our seniors and ensure they have access to affordable and reliable community supports,” said Minister Cho, Minister for Seniors and Accessibility. “The Seniors Community Grant Program is a critical lifeline in every corner of our province for seniors to learn new skills, get fit, enjoy group activities and stay connected to their neighbours and friends.”
“We are so honoured to have been selected for this grant. The Seniors residing in our Seniors Apartment Complex are thrilled to be able to participate in beautifying the complex for themselves and for future tenants,” said Sarah Chegahno, Manager of Housing with the Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation. “We look forward to inviting all Community Elders to have the opportunity to leave their mark on the building through art.”
The SCGP is designed to help seniors increase independence, reduce social isolation and create positive connections. Across the province, $7-million will be awarded to 330 projects, with a maximum award for a single project being $25,000.
