$82,300 Capital Grant from the Ontario Government Helped with Bowling Club Upgrades
September 22, 2025
OWEN SOUND – On Thursday, September 18, 2025, MPP Paul Vickers was at the Owen Sound Roselawn Bowling Club to hear about the results of an $82,300 Capital grant from the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF). The grant, awarded in 2024, was used to repair the Club’s equipment shed, as well as to repair or replace exterior benches. By repairing the Club’s outdoor structures, it can continue to provide people with a great place for lawn bowling. These shelters are necessary to provide protection from the rain and sun during games, social times, rentals, tournaments and open house events.
“The Roselawn Bowling Club is a club with deep roots in the Owen Sound community,” said Bruce—Grey—Owen Sound MPP Paul Vickers. “I am pleased that the OTF could assist with maintaining the facility’s structures so lawn bowling can continue to be enjoyed in Owen Sound for years to come.”
The OTF grant has extended the use of the equipment shed by providing a better foundation and replacing the siding. Improvements were made to the layout inside the shed to safely access lawn maintenance equipment and lawn bowling equipment. And by also replacing the sun shelters, members will now have better and more accommodating protection from the sun and rain.
“Thank you to the Ontario Trillium Foundation for continuing to support our local community sport of lawn bowling,” said Lynn Beaton, President, Owen Sound Roselawn Bowling Club. “It is great to see a younger user base joining our club and enjoying this great sport. The club has been around for 105 years and does need the occasional bit of help to keep the space viable and with help like OTF we hopefully will be around for another 100 years.”
The Club will be closing soon for the season, but it is always looking for new community members to check out this great sport. Come visit us in the spring of 2026 when the Club will be offering both lawn bowling and croquet golf.
